Recently we have become more interested than ever in buying American-made products. Yet, after all of my searching and researching I’ve come to one, recurring conclusion. Undoubtedly, the search results are very misleading! For example, when looking for “Clothing Made in The USA” I found a wide variety of results, some good, but most bad. For your benefit, I’ve broken the search results down into three categories below to help you better navigate the world of US-made products.
1 – Clothing Collections Made in America
The first thing that I realized when looking for women’s, American-made clothing, was that there were many, many, many search results. Most of them were not what I was looking for at all, and the biggest portion of them were clothing collections. Clothing collections were everywhere, but they were usually just a page with a few results. My advice is that when doing your search, keep your eyes open for words such as Selection, Section, Boutique, or Collection. For example, these words may be found in the search, or on the About Us page, and sometimes only in the url. In summary, these words tell you that only some of the items on the website are made in the US.
- Jude Connally (Dresses are made in the US)
- Duluth Trading Co (Items in this collection are made in the USA)
2 – Clothing Not Made Here
Clothing that was made around the world was everywhere in these search results! I mean everywhere. Every single page had these results littered throughout. Companies like Sears, Target, NorthStyle, Coldwater Creek, Amazon, Made in Hong Kong (See above) and so on. Some of these companies didn’t even claim to have products made in the US, and yet some were only founded or headquartered here. In other instances, the site may have sold Jewelry, or accessories such as hats and wallets made in the USA, but the clothing was made somewhere else. Another common result was items that had been embroidered or screen printed here, but the garment was not actually made here.
3 – Clothing Made in the USA*
